All interested students, including international students, are considered for research assistantships, fellowship points, and named scholarships. Approximately 35% of Master’s students receive a form of fellowship from the department.
Applying students are considered for departmental aid if they check the appropriate box on the application. All returning Master's students must submit a departmental Fellowship form in Early February for consideration for monies for the forthcoming academic year. The form is available each year beginning in December through the due date in February. Please consult the departmental calendar for the specific date.
Research Assistantships
Research Assistantships provide a stipend of approximately $20,000 and up to 24 points of tuition remission in exchange for a work commitment of up to 20 hours per week.
Research Assistantships may be assigned to a full-time or adjunct faculty member(s) to assist in research, class preparation, and other responsibilities related to the faculty member's work.
Each year 2 or 3 Master's students receive R.A. positions.
Fellowship Points
A fellowship point will pay for one point/credit of tuition. Awards are generally made in clusters of fellowship points (i.e. 4, 8, 12 points etc.). There are approximately 20 - 25 fellowship point awards given each year.
Fellowship points cannot be used to pay registration fees or outstanding bursar arrears.
Named Scholarship Awards
There are a few named scholarships the department awards each year.
- The Paulette Goddard Scholarship is valued at $ 2,000.00
- The Lew Wasserman Scholarship is valued at $3,500.00
The department offers 1 or 2 of these awards each year to graduate students.
