Prospective Undergraduate Student FAQ
Can I apply online?
Yes. Please visit the NYU Undergraduate Admissions web site to apply online, but remember you must still meet the audition/portfolio requirements for your department of interest.
topI want to apply to Tisch. Can you please send me an application?
All applications are disseminated through the NYU Undergraduate Admissions Office. Please click here to be put on the NYU mailing list. Make sure that you list one of the departments at Tisch in order to receive Tisch-related information!
topDo I have to fill out the NYU application and a Tisch application?
No. There is only one application for all undergraduate programs at NYU. However, there is a special section in the back of the application called "Special Admissions Requirements." This section lists what you must complete for your specific program at Tisch. All Tisch programs require a creative review. Please visit the Artistic Review Requirements page for your department's requirements.
topCan I sit in on a class?
Because of the participatory and creative nature of many courses at Tisch, all departments (with the exception of the Department of Dance) do not permit prospective students to observe classes. However, you may sit in on liberal arts courses in the College of Arts and Science. For an up-to-date listing of available classes, please call 212-998-4522.
topIs it possible to take classes before applying to Tisch?
We no longer offer “special visiting” status for nonmatriculating students. This means you must apply to a program at Tisch and be accepted in order to take classes here. The Office of Special Programs offers summer courses at Tisch, or if you attend another college or university, you can apply for Spring at Tisch.
topI have never visited Tisch. Where do I start?
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions offers tours of the NYU campus and information sessions multiple times a day, Monday through Saturday. Reserve a space by calling Undergraduate Admissions at 212-998-4550 or visiting the NYU Visit Us page.
topI have already attended a NYU information session and taken a campus tour. Are there any Tisch tours?
Because the nature of each program at Tisch differs so much from one another, we do not offer general Tisch tours. There are visiting options for each department. Please see our Visit Us! page to learn more.
topDo you hold open house programs?
Yes, please visit the NYU Open House page for more information.
topI have recently been admitted to Tisch and would like to request a deferment, what do I need to do?
Students requesting a deferment please visit the Undergraduate Admissions, Deferring Your Enrollment page.
